Alexander von Humboldts Manuskript „Isle de Cube. Antilles en général“ lässt sich als Titel für ein ganzes Text-Archipel begreifen. Es fasziniert durch seine radikal offene Strukturierung und liefert uns eine Vorstellung vom Schreib- wie vielleicht mehr noch vom Denkmodell des Kultur- und Naturforschers. Die politische und soziale Komplexität der karibischen Inselwelt erfassen seine Textminiaturen relational und viellogisch. Sie machen ihn – zusammen mit seinen kubanischen Karten und dem Essai politique sur l‘île de Cuba – zu einem bedeutenden kubanischen Schriftsteller des 19. Jahrhunderts.
Abstract
Alexander von Humboldt’s manuscript ”Isle de Cube. Antilles en général“ can be read as the title of an entire archipelago of texts. Its radically open design is intriguing and gives us a sense of the ways in which this explorer of culture and nature modelled his writing but even more his thinking. His text miniatures encompass the political and social complexity of the Island World of the Caribbean in a relational and polylogical way. In combination with his Cuban maps and the Essai politique sur l’île de Cuba, this manuscript gives Humboldt a prominent place in Cuba’s 19th century literature.
Resumen
El manuscrito ”Isle de Cube. Antilles en général“ de Alejandro de Humboldt se puede comprender como el título para todo un archipiélago de textos. Su estructuración radicalmente abierta nos proporciona la idea de un modo de escribir y más aún de pensar de este explorador de cultura y naturaleza. Sus miniaturas textuales registran la complejidad política y social del mundo insular del Caribe de forma relacional y polilógica. En combinación con sus mapas cubanos y el Essai politique sur l‘île de Cuba, este manuscrito hace de Humboldt un escritor prominente de la literatura cubana del siglo XIX.
