Silvia Navia Méndez-Bonito is associate professor of Spanish at Webster University, Saint Louis MO. Her research and publications examine the presence of an early national consciousness in the works of expelled Spanish American Jesuits and their intellectual contributions to the mindset that made the independence of the Spanish American nations.
